Dateline Manila - Amchem’s latest Chemist Training program called “Technical Seminar on Sun Protection” was held on April 13, 2011. This time, the Seminar was conducted at the Centro Escolar University in Mendiola, in conjunction with the CEU Faculty of Cosmetic Science.
Despite being held on the same day as the PCTACFI’s GMP training, most confirmed guests arrived, and attendance was good. The whole Belo Medical group R&D staff showed up with Ms. Jamelle Santos, one of CEU’s proud Cosmetic Science Alumni. She received a special mention from former Dean Austria of CEU.
The power house list of guest speakers included Ms. Espie Moya who discussed the regulatory guidelines on sunscreen ingredients and labeling requirements. Dr. Gertrude Chan talked on In vivo testing and helped enlighten everyone on questions about SPF. And Ms Ann Vidal of Consumer Research who showed everyone how to make a consumer study of SPF products.
The Amchem Team came in full force, and was led by Gen. Mgr. Amador Vallejos, who welcomed everyone with his opening remarks. Ms Linda Yu guided everyone through the film viewing about definition/classification of UV Rays, Aging, sunburn and tanning, and SPF rating. She also discussed about In vitro testing. Ms Pinky de Jesus and Ms Marilyn Chan demonstrated cosmetic formulations for sun protection, and Mr. Carlos de Leon, sales manager, delivered the closing remarks and thanked everyone for coming. For CEU, Dr. Austria was on hand to lead the CEU Faculty.
As Usual, the liveliest portion of the seminar occurred during the question and answer portion, where anything goes. The Quiz breaks were also entertaining as it involved audience participation. People started laughing, when one of the questions asked was if black skin can get sunburned, and most thought it can, and were surprised that it does not due to the skin type.
After the seminar, everyone enjoyed a delicious merienda served at the ground floor. The Amchem staff made sure everyone had food and drinks, and got a chance to mingle with the participants. As the last of the guest departed, the Amchem staff could not help but feel that this was yet another successful Amchem Chemist Training Program.
